Of the answers an AI engine gives for a set of queries, the fraction that cite a given domain. The AI-era counterpart of rank tracking: it measures presence in the answer rather than position on a page. Tracked against named competitors over time, it shows whether you are gaining or losing ground.
Answers vary between runs and locations, so citation share means something only for a fixed set of queries measured on a schedule, and it is read as a trend rather than a single snapshot.
It sits alongside the other measures of generative engine optimization: mentions (how often a model names your brand, with or without a link), referral traffic from AI products such as chatgpt.com, and accuracy (whether answers describe your prices, locations and products correctly).
Example
You track 20 queries. This month an AI Overview appears for 15 of them, and 3 of those cite your domain, so your citation share for the set is 3 in 15, or 20%. A competitor cited in 6 of the 15 has twice your share.

AI Visibility records, for each keyword, whether an AI answer appeared, whether your domain was cited and who was cited instead, and exports the run to a spreadsheet. The GEO guide explains how to measure it over time.
